Such a boy!
Yesterday, while getting ready to leave for school, Riley noticed the garbage truck up the hill starting its collections. He craned his neck to watch as I put things in the car and since we had a few extra minutes, we sat down on our front stairs and watched the exciting events as they took place.
He watched them collect garbage up the street and as the truck got closer, Riley's eyes got wider and his mouth opened further. By the time they got to our house, Riley was in a trance and was very impressed both by the garbage men and by their truck!
Then, this morning when I brought Riley into school, there were men riding on lawn mowers cutting the grass. This was almost as impressive as the garbage truck! So we sat down and watched here too!
As if we couldn't tell by all of his other traits, Riley is ALL boy!

Zee's playdate
On Thursday evening, Zee came over and kicked Chris and I out of the house for a few hours. He said he didn't care what we did, as long as we were not home. So we went out for dinner and ice cream while Riley and Zee stayed at home to play!
Chris and I had a great time at dinner, and as you can tell, everyone had fun spending time together at home, too!

Little sailor boy
This afternoon, we added to the fun of Zee's birthday weekend and took a quick ride on the boat. We picked up lunch, headed to the docks and got on the water. Riley wasn't so sure about the life vest but once we started cruising, he really enjoyed himself. It was a great foray into a life on the water!

First week of daycare
Today marks the end of the first official week of daycare. But for those of you counting days, we only really had 4 this week. Riley had been having a great week at daycare, making new friends, trying new foods, learning to share toys - and apparently germs, too!
I got a call yesterday after lunch saying that I had to come pick Riley up from school cause he was sick. He barely had a fever but they said he had to go home and couldn't' come back until Monday. So I picked up my little boy, brought him home and played with him for hours. At daycare, they told me that they knew he wasn't feeling 100% because he didn't eat ALL the food they put in front of him like he usually does.
The good news is, all he really has is a little cold. He's sniffly and stuffy but nothing a few days of naps and juice can't cure. He was feeling well today, so rather than sitting at home, we pretended like we had played hooky and headed to the pool!
So his first week at daycare and my first week back to work weren't quite whole weeks, but we'll try again next week.

Enjoying the beautiful weekend
This weekend, we had such beautiful weather that we just had to spend as much time as we could outside. On Saturday, we spent a few hours at the neighborhood pool. We are just a few blocks away so when Riley woke up from his morning nap, we fed him quickly, slathered him with sunscreen and headed off to the pool.
The water was pretty cold but once we eased ourselves in, we were all smiles. We played with our toys, spent time practicing taking steps, made new friends and just enjoyed each other. You should have heard Riley giggling when Chris went underwater and then popped up - he was squealing!
On Sunday evenings, our park has live music so we had to check that out too. We packed up a picnic dinner, walked over to the park with BiBi and Zee and spent the evening on a blanket listening to The Stickers, a country band. Riley loved the music, the people watching and the food. Zee even took him down to the area in front of the stage so he could get a front-row view of the band and the kids dancing to the music.
As you can tell, we are loving our lives in the suburbs!

Splashing around Pittsburgh
This weekend, we explored the fountains of Pittsburgh! It was a hot day and we had to find some way to cool off. We walked around the stadiums with BiBi and Zee, checked out all the sights and then finally made it back to downtown for lunch.
Riley had such a good time splashing around but its a wonder there was any water even left in the fountain when he was done - I thought it was all in his diaper!
And the best way to relax after some serious splashing? Taking a nap in just a diaper as you get pushed though the city in a comfortable carriage!

4th of July
Happy 4th of July! We had a great day celebrating close to home and exploring our new neighborhood. The day started with an exercise and coffee walk with BiBi and Zee. Then, after a nap and some more unpacking, we headed down to the recreation center where the neighborhood was hosting a fair. There were games, music and a petting zoo that Riley loved exploring.
We pet a baby cow, dodged the horns on goats, chased some chickens and steered clear of goose teeth. Riley tried to grab onto everyones fur but the animals seemed to be used to it so they didn't mind.
The afternoon was spent at BiBi and Zee's house relaxing and smoking dinner on the new grill. We had a delicious dinner and then came back to our house for fireworks and brownies. We had a great view of the fireworks from our front yard and are already planning a party for next year to show off our great spot.
Hope everyone had a great day of relaxation and celebration!

Off to Pittsburgh
Well, we're here!!! We have officially moved and are now in the process of making ourselves at home. The packing/loading/driving part is done and now all that's left is unpacking and making the house our home.
Sunday was a very long day but went extremely well for everyone involved. Our caravan consisted of me, Riley and Zee in one car, Patricia and James in another car with the dogs and Chris driving the truck with the cat. The drive took 11 hours door-to-door including 3 stops and some traffic but everyone knew their part and did it perfectly.
I must say, I think our car had the most fun. Riley and Zee were keeping each other entertained in the back seat the whole time. They read books, sang songs, learned the ABC's and told each other jokes. I drove the whole time but didn't mind because there was always something going on in the back seat!
So now the truck is unloaded, the house is full of boxes and it's time to figure out where everything goes. Stay tuned!
